Achievements of my life
One of my achievements to my family life was the birth to all of my 16 children, but sadly only 13 out of the 16 survived infancy. For my more memorable achievements in life, while ruling as the empress of the Hapsburg Empire, I was able to achieve many things in the aspects in government, law, economy, religion, and military. For the government I was able to institute taxes on nobility, centralize decision making, and required all elected officials to have their qualification to hold office be checked by the government. As for the law I limited arbitrary and ruthless power of nobles, created an appeals courts system, and abolished the use of torture to obtain a confession. My achievements toward the economy was that I reduced the guilds power, I encouraged immigration with compensation benefits, improved road and port transportation, and promoted private enterprise over state industry. For Religion I was able to institute a tax on the Catholic Churh, forbid the Church to send money to Rome, required government approval for excommunication and purchasing of Church land, and allowed Protestants to have some religious freedom. I founded schools for military training, and the central government conscripted military rather than the nobles.
Setbacks
I lived many setbacks and disappointments through my children, they tended to let me down periodically. Only my son Leopold of Tuscany lived up to my expectations. One of my biggest disappointments was of my daughter, Marie Antoinette. Three of my daughters married off to unprepossessing Bourbons- in Parma, Naples, and France which irritated me and made me feel an urge of disappointment. With my son Joseph I was always in conflict because he was for the philosophy of enlightenment, while that was against my beliefs. He also took in a great liking with Fredrick the Great, which offended me greatly. With me getting older in age I was becoming poor in health and trying hard to hold off on the approach of the New Age, I was afraid of loosing all I had of my more conservative life.
